Of all the cities in Texas, San Antonio is by far one of my favorites! It is such a fun place. Everywhere you look there is entertainment, history, amazing restaurants, and educational activities. The list is endless! One of the most famous landmarks of San Antonio is the Alamo. This piece of history speaks for itself and does not need much explanation. However, if you are ever visiting San Antonio, you can’t leave without checking out the Alamo! A few other educational activities you can check out: The Buckhorn Museum, the Texas Ranger Museum (both located inside the Buckhorn Saloon), and the San Antonio Children’s Museum.
A very popular area in San Antonio is the Riverwalk. The Riverwalk is a festive and entertaining area of the city. There are numerous shops, restaurants, bars, and hotels. You can take a river boat tour of the area. The driver will tell you a little about each place you see. They are very knowledgeable and will engross you in the history of the city.
A few of the more exciting and interesting activities in San Antonio are: the Guinness World Records Museum, Ripley’s Haunted Adventure, the Tomb Rider 3D attraction, Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks, Ripley’s Believe It or Not Odditorium, and Ripley’s 4D Moving Theater. Each of these attractions are one of a kind and unforgettable. I make a point to visit each of these every time I visit the city. If you want to see all of the attractions, they have tickets that you can buy for all attractions and it will save you money verses buying tickets for each individually. One of my visits to the city was on Halloween. This made our walk through the Haunted Adventure even more exciting! The entire city was covered with zombies, witches, and ghoulish spirits!
My mom did not share my excitement on this trip. Still to this day, she swears we tricked her into the Haunted Adventure. We stood in line for probably 30 minutes and she never realized we were about to go through a haunted house. In fact, she only figured it out right before we were starting the adventure when there was an announcement that said to not touch the actors. She was so mad at all of us, because she HATES scary stuff. We still get a good laugh about that night.
If you are an animal lover, San Antonio will not disappoint! One of my favorite places in San Antonio is Sea World. This place simply amazes me. When watching the Killer Whale show, I felt like a little kid. I got so excited and didn’t want the show to stop. There are so many beautiful animals and awesome animal encounters that you can experience. You can often find discounts on tickets as well. Another neat activity is to take a horse drawn carriage tour of the city. I took a night time tour of the Alamo Plaza area. It was so beautiful to ride on a carriage and see the city lights. Our driver was amazing and had so much knowledge of the city. She told us all about the popular ghost stories and the haunted hotels of the city. The 2 horses that pulled our carriage were beautiful. This is a very romantic activity, especially on the night tour. The San Antonio Zoo is nice. The zoo is proud to host over 9,000 animals!
Last but not least, is the food! It should not be a surprise that you can find some fantastic Mexican food in San Antonio! There is no shortage of Mexican restaurants. But you can also find some amazing BBQ and steakhouses. One thing that may surprise you is the awesome Irish pub that is found on the Riverwalk. This is my absolute favorite place to eat while in San Antonio! I love the atmosphere, the people, the staff, and the food! The pub is called Waxy O’Connor’s and my favorite dish is the Dublin Chicken! I seriously must eat this dish when I visit San Antonio. My trip is not complete without eating it! It is chicken breast pounded to very thin pieces with Irish bangers stuffing. It is then smothered in a brandy, cream, and mushroom sauce. It is served with mashed potatoes and peas. It is delicious! One of my favorite things to do while traveling is to find a great local restaurant. I rarely eat at chain restaurants when on a trip.
As I said before, San Antonio is a trip you must take at some point. There are so many fun things to do! You will make lifelong memories in the city and want to return time and time again!
